Mother-and-child portrait sessions are making a return to one photographer’s studio, offering a way for friends to share both the experience and the cost.

What the sessions involve

The group format allows up to three adults to book together, splitting the price of a single studio session between them. The idea is a sociable one: friends gather, children are photographed, and everyone leaves with images to keep.

The photographer has long encouraged parents to step in front of the camera alongside their children rather than staying behind it, arguing that few people later regret having those pictures taken.

How a session runs

The atmosphere is kept deliberately relaxed and paced around the children’s moods and needs. Shooting covers several bases:

• individual portraits of each child
• mother-and-child photographs
• pictures of the children together as friends
• group shots, if the families want them

Once the necessary photographs are in the bag, there is time for a chat over a drink and a snack — or a break midway through if the little ones need one.

What is included

Each booking covers:

• up to 1.5 hours of studio time
• a full album of digital images
• a drink and a snack
• a chocolate treat to take home, where age-appropriate
• a small flower gift for the mothers
