A photography studio is bringing birthday party sessions back to its regular offering, after hosting one for a nine-year-old and her friend that reminded the photographer how enjoyable they are.

The sessions are designed as a fun alternative to a conventional children’s party, with the added draw of a set of professional images to keep afterwards.

What happens during a session

Around one to one and a half hours of studio time is set aside for each party. During that time, participants can change outfits, try out accessories, choose their own music, dance and sing, and pose both individually and as a group.

The session opens with relaxed individual and group portraits, with gentle direction from the photographer. Balloons, outfit changes and accessories are introduced as the session progresses. Drinks and a few sweets are provided, and families are welcome to bring a cake so that they can sing Happy Birthday during the session, which will be photographed. By the end, participants are usually choosing their own poses and dances.

There is a changing area, so outfits can be brought along. As well as being part of the fun, this adds variety to the finished images. In the session pictured, the birthday girl and her friend were particularly taken with teddy bears and hats.

Who the sessions suit

Party sessions are suitable for children aged nine and over, in groups of two to six. An adult must be present throughout. Sessions can be booked at weekends, during school holidays and in the evenings.

What is included

Each participant receives a small gift bag at the end of the session. Images are ready to view and download from a password-protected online album within seven days of the party, and all images in the album are included in the package.
